Chandigarh's awesomeness

Go figure, Neha loves and recognizes Ganesha.  Haven't I been asking for his help all along the way? Apparently she has been too.  The way life shows you paths are crossing all the time blows my mind sometimes.
I know Neha Is scoweling, but damn, finally a good pictures of me. Kids, I swear.   We visited the famous Chandigarh rock garden today.  It was so fantastic.  It was like the ultimate labyrinth. Tunnels, mazes, autoriums, 20 foot swings, cascading waterfalls, and hundreds of sculptures all created by a vagrant with found objects.  Crazy.  Well a little too crazy actually, Neha got the biggest kick out of it. She found her legs and her confidence and almost got herself and Lucy trampled by a camel.  I have to except the fact that I cannot always see things coming.  This little episode took both parents breath away as anyone can imagine.

Today we experienced a beauty of purity in recycling and design.  Anything can be achieved if you set your mind to it.  The  man behind the garden, Nek Chand, had been making sculptures in secret to satisfy his creative desires and occupy his jobless time.  He was eventually found out and not punished but hired by the city to finish out his vision and dedicated it to the spirit of creativity. All four of us, kids included felt quite lucky to have been able to be a part of it.  Tomorrow we are off to Jaipur, weather and fog hopefully cooperating.  We hope to get a feel for India's classic heritage.  Forts, temples, snake charmers and maybe a little elephant polo..... Seriously?  We'll see but sure does sound awesome.

  1. Wonderful photos once again! I hope you enjoy Jaipur. It is one of my favorite places that we were able visit. If you are looking for a bit of something wonderful to bring home. Kripal Singh, the father of Jaipur blue pottery, lived there (died in 2008 or so) Anyway his wife and daughter, I believe, sell his work for a reasonable price from his home. Worth the effort to bring something back if you have the time.
